In this paper, I briefly examine the meaning of the individuation process as presented by Jung, seeing it as a necessary creative response to the difficult to understand senseless acts of violence that happen all to often in contemporary society. I begin by observing that, according to a dream that Jung had near the end of his life, ordinary people today from all walks of life can understand his message. I subsequently discuss the spirit of the times and then juxtapose it with a cursory look at what is involved in the individuation process.
